LA AUTO SHOW 2023

After attending the media preview of this year’s LA Auto Show, I selected and awarded my favorite electric cars, concept cars, celebrity cars and one-of-a-kind designs.

Here are the winners:

BEST CALIFORNIA INSPIRED is the cute ID. BUZZ exhibit. Buzz is electric and has three rows for six and seven seat configurations. Buzz is so eye-catching one needs to stop and admire the two-tone paint, cool rims, and friendly looking front bumper. Availability is scheduled for 2024.

BEST IMMERSIVE EXHIBIT – Every year Subaru spreads the love all around with their immersive exhibit evoking excitement and inspiring Subaru driving experiences. This year’s all-new Subaru Forester roll-out is not to be missed. The new Forester is packed with updated technology and exciting features, plus the all-important all-weather capability of the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, 8.7″ of ground clearance. It even offers upgraded EyeSight Driver Assist Technology. The National Parks theme highlights the brand’s dedication to preservation through an immersive 180-degree LED wall and floor, wilderness-inspired sights, sounds and smells and two levels of viewing. Subaru loves animals and even has an adoption center for visitors to bring home a new furry friend.

BEST ELECTRIC SUV Lucid’s debuts their new electric Lucid Gravity, a fully electric luxury SUV with a projected range of over 440 miles. The starting price is under $80,000, and production is expected to begin in late 2024.

BEST MADE IN THE USA SPORTS CAR – There are three 2024 Chevrolet Corvette models displayed this year. This wide body Z06 has an fierce V8 sound, luxury interior, and makes one feel empowered while driving in the city and on the highway. Pricing ranges from $70,000 to almost $200,000 depending on the model.

BEST GOLDEN VEHICLE – The Acura all-electric ZDX Type S is arriving in 2024, as the first all-electric Acura, combining electrified performance, elevated design and exhilarating power. The high-resolution 11-inch Precision Cockpit Digital Instrument Cluster and 11.3-inch Color Touchscreen can be customized to provide an intuitive, driver-focused experience. The anticipated range rating is 325 miles, and the ZDX and ZDX Type S are expected to be priced in the $60,000 and $70,000 range.

BEST KNOCKOFF VEHICLE goes to AITEKX RoboTruck, a new multifunction electric vehicle similar to Tesla’s Cybertruck. Looking a little rough around the edges, the company said that the model is currently a prototype, and their production target is set for 2025.

MEGASTAR PRIVATE CAR COLLECTION goes to car enthusiast Kevin Hart. He has 9 of his custom-built favorites from his ever growing private car collection on display. Center stage is his sleek black 2023 Ferrari 812, a sparkling 1965 Ford Mustang, and under rainbow lights is his 1970 Dodge Challenger classic muscle car.

Here are his other one-of-a-kind cars on display 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle “Darkness”, 1969 Chevrolet Camaro “Bad News”, 1966 Pontiac GTO Convertible “Money”, 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner “Michael Myers”, 1970 Dodge Charger “Hellraiser”and 1987 Buick Grand National “Dark Knight”.  Inside Hart’s exhibit space is his vegan Hart House,Gran Coramino Tequila and and Vita Hustle Superfood samples on display.

MOST ARTIST VEHICLE goes to the popular artist and Los Angeles native – Mister Cartoon. He unveils the official LA Auto Show print he created specifically for the occasion (see photo at top). He also created this eye-catching design on this one-of-a-kind colorful ice-cream truck.

BEST EXOTIC CARS goes to The Galpin Auto Sport exhibit hall displaying car enthusiasts dream cars. Known as one of the largest family-owned dealership groups in America, Galpin has been in business since 1947. The Custom Hall showcases customized exotic cars, classic cars and limited editions with unique paint creations.

BORN TO THRILL goes to the 2024 Nissan Z. With a powerful, 400 horsepower twin-turbo V6 up front, and a manual transmission in the middle, this car offers the ideal balance of rear-wheel drive in the back. All this is wrapped in a stunning body with a cockpit that’s focused on the drive. The Sport model starts at $42,210, while the Performance model starts at $52,210.

MOST IMAGINATIVE CONCEPT CAR goes to Hyundai Motor America, the Exclusive North American Automotive Sponsor for Disney100 Celebration. Hyundai unveiled its first-of-its kind creative collaboration with Walt Disney Imagineering – a special IONIQ 5 Disney100 Platinum Concept car. The car features special Disney-inspired visual accents and entertainment including lighting and iconic Disney music. This is an ideal electric vehicle for Disney fans. An extremely limited amount are scheduled to debut in early 2024, starting at $59,250.
