The 5-Star Dorchester Collection

beverly hills hotelI had the delightful opportunity to meet Christopher Cowdray, the CEO of the Dorchester Collection and many of his talented Grand Managers last Friday at the “Pink Palace” for lunch. Cowdray informed a group of media professionals about the various Dorchester properties in Europe and USA.

Sitting next to Zoe Jenkins, General Manager of the Coworth property, I learned she has worked for the company for over 25 years. While nibbling on a heirloom beet carpaccio salad, grilled breast of chicken with Parmesan and herb spaetzle and a raspberry cheesecake, Zoe talked about her property and the other 5-star luxury hotels in Europe and the USA.

Here is what I discovered about the Dorchester Collection:

Beverly Hills

The Beverly Hills Hotel on Sunset Blvd. is a premier Dorchester property with 165 rooms and 43 exquisite suites and bungalows. Just celebrating it’s 100th anniversary, the property offers the legendary Polo Lounge as an ideal spot to grab a cocktail and bite to eat. I’ve seen some of Hollywood’s most talented stars dining with agents and firming out new movie deals. Astronauts, CEOs and Beverly Hills lunch ladies enjoy a favorite booth inside or table out on the charming garden patio.

Bel Air

Nestled on 12 acres in the Bel-Air Estates neighborhood of Los Angeles, the iconic Hotel Bel-Air is one of the most beautiful, romantic, and exclusive hotels in the world. It opened 18 months ago after a two-year transformation. It’s a Spanish mission-style urban oasis with faultless serviceluxurious accommodations, and an unforgettable ambiance. Be sure to use the complimentary Mercedes S-400 hybrid service to destinations within three miles of the hotel. Home of the Master Chef Wolfgang Puck restaurant for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner.

The Dorchester is one of the world’s most iconic hotels in the world. Celebrities, world leaders, royalty and high society stay in many of the 194 rooms, 51 suites and 4 roof garden suites. The property offers a spa and Michelin-starred cuisine. Don’t miss their afternoon tea.

45 Park Lane

This state of the art hotel is near its sister hotel, The Dorchester. It offers stunning views of Hyde Park. Wolfgang Puck’s CUT is the signature restaurant at this property. With 25 rooms and 10 suites, this property offers spacious room, luxurious amenities and views of London.

Coworth Park

Want to experience living just like the characters in the popular PBS series, Downton Abbey? This pastoral country home and spa is just 15 minutes from London. Close to Windsor Palace and set in 240 acres of parkland, there is an equestrian center and polo field where royalty have come to ride horses. The Barn offers informal dining inside or out on the al fresco terrace. The main restaurant offers modern British cuisine. There are 24 rooms and 6 suites.

Le Meurice offers guests views of the Tuileries Garden outside and exquisite interior design by Philippe Starck. Restaurant le Meurice has been awarded three Michelin-stars since 2007.

Hotel Plaza Athenee offers guests prime views of Paris and the Eiffel Tower. Opened in 1913, the hotel is located on the prestigious avenue Montaigne, home to haute couture. Fine dining includes 3-star Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athenee and six other excellent dining venues. Be sure to use the complimentary red bicycles.

Hotel Principe di Savoia has served travellers and the cosmopolitan society since the 1920s. Acanto serves authentic Italian cuisine, while Il Salotto feeds hungry guests and locals all day long. The spa offers Turkish baths.

According to General Manager Klaus Kabelitz, La Richemond is located on the lovely shores of Lake Geneva and overlooks Jardin Brunswick. Founded in 1875, the property is pure comfort and luxury. The restaurant Le Jardin offers Mediterranean cuisine. With 87 rooms and 22 suites, the hotel is a premier spot for travellers.

Before leaving the luncheon, Zoe Jenkins mentioned to me, “The company is currently searching for a New York property that meets the qualifications and standards to earn the Dorchester title. It needs to be a very special property.” So far, they haven’t found the right property yet, however I am convinced this talented team will find just the right one.
