Descanso Gardens glows for five nights from October 23-28, 2019. Located about 25 minutes from downtown Los Angeles, put Carved on your Bucket List this October! Tickets go on sale today, October 1, 2019 for an entertaining and unique stroll along a one-mile pathway with over 1,000 hand-carved illuminated Jack O’Lanterns. Some are simple, some are scary, others humorous and award winning. You will laugh and be in awe.

Enormous 100-pound-plus pumpkins carved by professional local artists are featured in about 75 spots inside Descanso Gardens. These special jack-o’-lanterns will feature popular themes like superheroes, famous movie monsters and more. Along with pumpkins, there will be seasonal snacks, live carving demonstrations and special surprises.

“Carved was designed to give visitors of all ages a festive and fun evening at Halloween time,” said Executive Director Juliann Rooke. “Not only does Carved showcase the season, but it’s also a unique experience in the Gardens.” It will put you in the autumn mood.

This is not the first time pumpkins have been showcased at Descanso. In 2014 and 2015 RISE of the Jack O’ Lanterns, also produced by Pollack and Thomas Olton, was staged in the Rose Garden. The popularity of that event inspired Descanso to create its own nighttime event, Enchanted: Forest of Light. But in the years since, Descanso has received countless requests from the public to bring back the jack-o’-lanterns.

Visiting the Descanso Gardens’ gift shop near the entrance, it’s decked out in Halloween and Fall decor. As part of the Carved experience, visitors will be invited to watch the pumpkins being carved in the Gardens’ Van de Kamp Hall in the week leading up to the event. “These are some of the most talented illustrators and sculptors we’ve ever met, and it shows in the quality of work they produce,” said Mike Pollock, executive producer of the event.

General admission tickets cost $30 for nonmembers ($25 for members) and go on sale today, October 1, 2019. Founded as a public garden in 1953, Descanso Gardens is located at 1418 Descanso Drive, La Cañada Flintridge, CA 91011. Descanso Gardens is open daily (closed Christmas) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $9 for adults; $6 for seniors and students with a school I.D.; $4 for children 5 to 12, and free for ages 4 and younger.

It takes about 45 minutes to an hour to see all of the pumpkins.
