Kentucky Derby Festivities Around Town

This Saturday is the 142nd Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. For those who aren’t flying to the yearly event, you can
watch it on NBC. There are 20 horses running in the Kentucky Derby this year. Don’t want to watch it alone? Here’s where you can get dressed up and celebrate –

1. Kentucky Derby Viewing Party!
On Saturday, May 7 go to Willie Jane’s to see the 2016 Kentucky Derby. There will be a screening and celebration. Wear your best Derby outfit to take part in the BEST OUTFIT and BEST HAT contests. Post Time is 3:34pm. Be sure to dress up. There is a Best Outfit and Best Hat Judging at 4pm.

2. In Manhattan Beach, the SHADE HOTEL will host a day at the races for THE KENTUCKY DERBY on MAY 7, 2016
Dress in your finest and don’t forget your big, decorated hat to enjoy the elegance and excitement of the Kentucky Derby in Manhattan Beach.

Guests can enjoy G.H. Mumm champagne, mint juleps and Derby-inspired cocktails, as well as hors d’oeuvres and small plates. Attendees will also have the chance to participate in contests and win prizes.

Derby hats and attire are encouraged. A portion of proceeds from the event will benefit Richstone Family Center. he Richstone Family Center is dedicated to preventing and treating child abuse and trauma; strengthening and educating families; and, decreasing violence in families, schools and communities.

The event is co-hosted by Southbay Magazine, G.H. Mumm and Bella Beach Clothing Boutique, and will feature Derby Day dresses from Lilly Pulitzer.

3. Baltaire Brentwood – If you can’t fly to Louisville this year for the Kentucky Derby, don’t worry. The new mid-century, modern-inspired Brentwood steakhouse Baltaire is having  a viewing party on Baltaire’s large projector screen in the bar and lounge.

Enjoy a traditional Derby cocktail – Baltaire Julep, similar to a traditional mint julep. It can be customized to a guest’s desired spirit. Executive Chef Travis Strickland will offer a Hot Brown, the race’s classic Southern sandwich.
