Gone are the days of happy hours with tired drinks and lackluster bowls of salty nuts and pretzels. Bar fare has been kicked up a notch, with The FLATS in Beverly Hills leading the charge.
Visit The FLATS between 4 to 6 p.m. during the week for Michelin-starred executive chef Paul Shoemaker’s appetizing dishes, which include warm olives; roasted cauliflower with capers, brown butter, Meyer lemon and honey dates; and asparagus and prosciutto drizzled with a house-made marinara sauce, pecorino romano and lemon zest. Sweet ricotta cheese and marinara add a punch of flavor to crispy tempura squash blossoms, another house favorite.
Sample the artisan flatbreads as well, which include the simple and pleasing fresh basil and creamy mozzarella pizza with organic tomato sauce, and the pepperoni with tomato sauce and mozzarella.
The FLATS beer and wine menu, with highlights such as the citrusy Abita Hop-On beer, light Weihenstephaner lager and tart daiquiri, pairs well with the eatery’s bold pastas, salads and pizzas. Sip a tangy margarita or classic Tom Collins, prepared with gin, fresh lemon and sugar. Try the ‘Tween Normandie & Western, a CBD cocktail created by Beverage Director Pete Capella. This special sipper combines Singani 63 Brandy, lemon, egg white, Angostura bitters and a CDB sugar elixir to create a cocktail that is as refreshing as it is soothing. Spend the evening people-watching from the restaurant’s large window facing Wilshire Boulevard. 8400 Wilshire Blvd. (310)909-7549.
