Celebrate the holidays at Universal Studios Hollywood while enjoying an array of yule time festivities that include “Christmas in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” and “Grinchmas,” daily through Sunday, January 9, 2022. At dusk, stunning imagery and animation display are projected illuminating Hogwarts castle. The sounds of arrangement music from the Harry Potter film series fill the area.

Also at Universal Studios Hollywood meet and greet with The Grinch, his faithful dog Max and Who-ville residents as they gather near the 65 feet high topsy-turvey “Grinchmas” tree. There is a nightly tree lighting accompanied with a snowfall flurry.

Visit the Who-vile Post Office to write a postcard to send to The Grinch. For every postcard mailed, Universal Studios Hollywood’s Discover a Star Foundation will make a donation to School on Wheels which benefits homeless youth in Southern California.

Radisson Blu Anaheim

The Radisson Blu Anaheim has launched a new holiday-themed ‘Home Alone’ guestroom package for families. Inspired by the nostalgic movie “Home Alone” and Disney+ “Home Sweet Home Alone” reboot, guests can book a special room now until December 31, 2021, and celebrate the holidays McCallister-style.

You won’t go hungry with this package that includes Kevin’s favorite ice cream sundae, mac and cheese and freshly baked cheese or pepperoni pizza. Soft drinks plus a jar of M&Ms and freshly baked cookies await your arrival. Guests also receive two turtle dove ornaments inspired by Mr. Duncan’s toy store in Home Alone 2 for a keepsake.

Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills is hosting its annual holiday high tea every Sunday in December until Christmas. Located in the elegant Lobby Lounge, the staff will be serving a finely curated selection of teas from around the world, plus an array of sweet treats and flutes of champagne. A classical harpist will entertain guests with soothing and sophisticated music.

“We are thrilled to welcome guests to Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills to share the joy of the holiday season and create cherished memories with loved ones,” said Antonio Bugarin, Hotel Manager at Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills. “From the special menus at our award-winning restaurants, Jean-Georges Beverly Hills and The Rooftop by JG, to the festive glamour and décor, guests can expect a curated, luxurious experience, while still enjoying the nostalgia of traditional holiday favorites.”

Enchanted at Descanso Gardens offers 10 different light installations along a one-mile pathway. Stop to enjoy the mesmerizing colorful floral light display synchronized to music, and see swirling symphony lights in trees.

Stand in one of the many lit-up stained glass houses by contemporary sculptor Tom Fruin, and notice the patterns on the ground around the sparkling installations from HYBYCOZO on the Luminous Lawn.

The Ancient Forest transports guests to another land with its exquisite lighting effects. Enter the Garden of Good Fortune to be surrounded by hundreds of red lantern lights hanging in trees and reflecting off the stream and pond.

Universal CityWalk Hollywood reopens

Universal CityWalk Hollywood has excitedly reopened the about 40% of their dining venues and shops. Guest parking is complimentary right now, and each visitor will enter the Jurassic Park parking garage to have their temperature taken. Guests are required to wear face coverings throughout their visit.
A friendly staff member with an EXTECH non-contact forehead InfraRed Thermometer allows guests without a temperature to enter. Guests with a temperature of 100.4 degrees or greater will not be admitted.
IMG_9103The staff have been trained to aggressively cleaning and disinfection procedures and will be frequently cleaning all of the high touch services. All team members undergo temperature checks and wear face coverings and gloves.
IMG_9102 2Social distancing floor markers are placed throughout the area. Visitors are asked to stand on the floor markings until the group in front moves forward. Health and safety signage and audio recorded messages are broadcasted frequently throughout the area.

The Portland based Voodoo Doughnut is now open at Universal CityWalk offering sinfully delicious, unconventional delectables such as their classic Bacon Maple Bar, Grape Ape and Voodoo Doll doughnuts. Wedding ceremonies are performed here. Guests wait outside and are welcomed in for social distancing ordering to order and take home an iconic pink box. 

Other dining establishments include Johnny Rockets, Blaze Pizza, Starbucks Coffee, Crepe’ Cafe, KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut. Stores that have reopened include Shoe Palace, Skechers and Guess Accessories. More to reopen soon.

Celebrate The Year of the Rat at Universal Studios

The “Year of the Rat” celebration is now at Universal Studios Hollywood through February 9, 2020. Guests with birthday years that correspond with the “Year of the Rat” are said to be intelligent, witty and charming. Festive red banners list the years of each Chinese zodiac animal, as the theme park celebrates with this annual Lunar New Year event.

A Mandarin-speaking MEGATRON from “Transformers: The Ride-3D” greets guests under the Happy Lunar New Year arch before entering Po’s Village in Universal Plaza.


At no additional cost, guests can learn some Kung Fu Panda moves from Po, take an art class at Feng The Palace Artist Stand to learn how to draw Po, the Dragon Warrior with an artist from the fabled Jade Palace.

Only for this special celebration, meet Po’s adoptive father, Mr. Ping and have a chat before enjoying some of his delicious noodles and other food options from his nearby Noodle Shop.

Hello Kitty and Illumination’s Entertainment Minions are all adorned in custom-designed Lunar New Year Attire. The Despicable Me Minion Mayhem ride will add to the festivities, entertaining guests in their brightly colored traditional Lunar New Year attire.


The world-famous Studio Tour is available in Mandarin at select times throughout the day. Featuring expertly-trained Mandarin-speaking tour guides, the experience provides insight into the world of movie-making magic as guests enjoy behind-the-scenes access to one of the largest production studios in the world. In-language park maps are also available for guests.


Guests can continue their Lunar New Year celebration at Universal CityWalk’s Dongpo Kitchen restaurant which features upscale and modern Sichuan cuisine. Inspired by China’s premier restaurant Meizhou Dongpo, Dongpo Kitchen offers the comforts of a casual dining environment with both indoor and al fresco seating and caters to an eclectic palate with a variety of signature dishes.

Universal Studios Holiday Fun into 2020

Before and after Christmas enjoy the festivities at Universal Studios Hollywood. Then on Dec. 31, 2020 celebrate EVE at Hollywood’s biggest party of the year. On Tuesday, December 31, the theme park offers extended hours to 2:00 a.m. EVE is included in the price of theme park admission, or guest can enhance their celebration with the popular Ultimate EVE package.



During the day, The Grinch, his faithful dog Max and many Whos from Who-ville gather around the dazzling “Grinchmas” tree. In the evening, there are multiple tree lighting ceremonies, accompanied with snowfall flurry.


As night falls, Hogemeade Village sparkles with snow-capped roofs and storefronts decorated with holiday garland and decorations. The Hogwarts Castle is lit with color illuminating Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry during designated times. The awe-inspiring light projection show is choreographed to the musical arrangement from the Harry Potter movies.


The holiday atmosphere runs daily through Sunday, Dec. 29, 2019. Continue celebrating on NYE at EVE at three locations: Universal Plaza, Simpsons Plaza located in Springfield™ and an area near “Revenge of the Mummy – The Ride.”

Universal Studios brings “Christmas in Spring” for MEND Families

Universal Studios Hollywood hosted its 28th annual “Christmas in Spring” event for 1,000 families at M.E.N.D, located in Pacoima, California.


Universal Studios volunteers welcomed families on Saturday, June 1, 2019 to an afternoon of games, healthy food and entertainment. To help with the event, Universal brought along some of their most beloved characters, including Hello Kitty,  Spongebob, the Minions, and even Santa Claus himself.


Throughout the M.E.N.D. outdoor area stations were set up to provide different activities for both kids and adults.


There was a basketball toss station, face printing, and a book area where young guests could take a book home.


Arts & Crafts were provided by A Window Between Worlds, a non profit organization dedicated to using art as a healing tool to empower and transform individuals and communities impacted by violence and trauma.


Food offerings included hot chicken, Mac and Cheese, vegetables and bowls of fresh fruit, colorful donuts, brownies and cookies.

Hogwarts Castle illuminates this summer at Universal Studios

During Spring, I attended a preview of “Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle” inside the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood. The illuminating projection show during the summer is a little darker and even more spectacular than their traditional Christmas projection show.


Now through August 11 on selected nights, Hogsmeade village is open for guests to explore shops, see the multi-media show and experience the land’s signature rides, “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey” and “Flight of the Hippogriff.”


Enjoy hearty Scottish fare, Butterbeer and Gilly Water, as well as Sticky Toffee Pudding.

“Year of the Pig” at Universal Studios

Celebrate Lunar New year now at Universal Studios Hollywood featuring “Year of the Pig” decorations, food and entertainment now through February 18.


Upon entering, you will notice a curtain of customary red Chinese lanterns and stunning plum blossom Wishing Trees. Discover which of the 12 zodiac animal signs belong to you, accompanied by their symbolic attributes.


The centerpiece of the Lunar New Year festivities features DreamWorks’ Kung Fu Panda’s Dragon Warrior Training Show. It’s based on the beloved Kung Fu Panda franchise and Universal Studios Hollywood’s popular DreamWorks Theatre featuring “Kung Fu Pandaattraction.  The cast welcomes young guests up on the Jade Palace Performance Stages. It’s an interactive martial art demonstration performed by Master Po and friends.


Other activities include a free class with seasoned animators teaching guests techniques to draw Po and the Furious Five as keepsake mementos.


Visit Mr. Ping at his Noodle Shop for a chat with photo opportunity. He is serving up delicious culturally-themed food such as Po’s Dumplings, Dragon Warrior Bao, Oogway Eggrolls and Secret Ingredient Stir Fry Noodles. Mr. Ping prefers your order vegetarian noodles. I did and they are quite good.


There is an array of Asian fare at various locations throughout the park such as Banh Mi Sandwiches, Baos and dumplings at the Plaza Grill and Asian Entrée Bowls at Hollywood and Dineand Gru’s Lab.


Specialty Lunar New Year desserts including a “Year of the Pig” cookie, a Chocolate Matcha Cupcake and a Ginger Cheesecake with fortune cookie can be also found at various carts and restaurants.


Beloved global pop icon Hello Kitty, created by the global lifestyle brand Sanrio, further complements this year’s Lunar New Year celebration as she steps out in style wearing her signature red bow and specially-designed Lunar New Year attire.  Hello Kitty is available to meet guests at the Hello Kitty Shop located within the new Animation Studio Store.


Keeping with Universal Studios Hollywood’s Lunar New Year tradition, a Mandarin-speaking Transformer’s MEGATRON will greets guests at the entry of the festivities. The imposing 12-foot-tall robot leader of the DECEPTICONS interacts with guests, engaging them both in Mandarin and in real time conversation reflective of his persona. A resident of Universal Studios Hollywood, MEGATRON is one of the stars of Universal Studios Hollywood’s thrill ride, “Transformers™: The Ride-3D.

Jurassic World Theme 5K Run at Universal Studios

10 Summer Fun Experiences at Universal Studios Hollywood

The Entertainment Capital of L.A. Universal Studios Hollywood offers multiple themed immersive lands that transport guests to real-life interpretations of iconic movie and television shows. Here are 10 newer experiences at Universal Studios Hollywood:

  1. “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” features a lively Hogsmeade village and two thrill rides “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey” and “Flight of the Hippogriff”. In the evening starting at 8:50 p.m., crowds gather to witness “The Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle” illuminate the summertime sky. There are three awe-inspiring shows each evening starting at 8:50 p.m., and the last show at 10 p.m.  The state-of-the-art light display showcases the four houses of Hogwarts: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and Slytherin. Beams of lights, special effects projection and fireworks are accompanied by a special musical arrangement created by Academy Award-winning composer John Williams. The music is based on his original scores composed for the film, and is conducted by arranger William Ross and recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra in London. Night falls on Hogsmeade village, “The Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle” shines from June 24 – August 19 and September 1-3.

  3. See Pinocchio in the box office ticket booth at the newly constructed DreamWorks Theatre. Inspired by Mission revival architecture reminiscent of the Golden Age of Hollywood’s Art Deco period of the 1920s, walk up to the ticket seller booth, to see this life size character featured in the DreamWorks classic Shrek, asleep on the job. With one eye slightly open, he periodically talks to guests throughout the day. 

  4. Go inside the DreamWorks Theatre to experience “Kung Fu Panda: The Emperor’s Quest.” This new immersive theatre attraction opens with a series of 36 movie posters that pay homage to DreamWorks Animation films. Within the lobby, a selection of over 20 award statuettes are showcased representing a sampling of Golden Globe, Emmy, People’s Choice, Critic’s Choice, National Board of Review and Annie awards DreamWorks Animation has amassed from 2008 to 2015. There is also a collection of original sculpted maquettes of the “Kung Fu Panda: The Emperor’s Quest.”IMG_6909
  5.  Still in the lobby guests meet an array of DreamWorks characters who kick-off the attraction’s narrative. As guests enter the main theatre, they take a seat in the new ultra-plush, fully articulated seats that pivot and swivel in tandem with the 180-degree action. As the lights dim, the first-ever integration of interior projection mapping engulfs guests in an immersive adventure. Developed by the innovative team at Universal Creative, visually dynamic scenic designs are coupled with seven Christie 4K Boxer Cinema Projectors and 360 degree surround sound audio with the original score by composer Germaine Franco. Guests experience physical effects with their seat movement, as well as water and wind enhancing this adrenaline-spiked adventure from raging rapids, river pirates, awesome magic and Kung Fu.IMG_E8172
  6. Afterwards meet Po and Tigress within the park’s Universal Plaza.  A replica of Mr. Ping’s Noodle Shop, as featured in Kung Fu Panda, is set up for guests to enjoy his authentic Asian fare and a selection of hot and cold Asian beverages. 

  7. Learn more about America’s favorite TV Simpson family at “Super Silly Fun Land.” Stroll through “Springfield,” hometown of America’s favorite TV family located adjacent to the award-winning “The Simpsons Ride.” Grab a bite at Krusty Burger, Duff and Lard Lad Donuts. 

  8. Go down to the lower lot for your last chance to experience “Jurassic Park—The Ride” at Universal Studios Hollywood before it goes extinct on September 3, 2018. After Labor Day the theme park readies for the all-new Jurassic World ride in 2019. Before or after experiencing the theme park, visit the adjacent Universal CityWalk entertainment, shopping and dining complex. See a colossal 3-ton Tyrannosaurus rex towering 13’ tall and 36’ wide dominating CityWalk adjacent to the Universal Cinema. This is a fun photo opportunity. Nearby is a life-sized Gyrosphere – an original movie prop from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Universal Studios Celebrates the Chinese Lunar New Year – Year of the Dog

Now until Sunday, February 25 buy an admission ticket to Universal Studios Hollywood and enter the all-new Lunar New Year themed area. There are a multitude of Chinese New Year experiences with the help of DreamWorks’ favorite Kung Fu Panda characters and Universal Studios stars.

Here’s 8 fun, interactive experiences that the entire family will enjoy:

  1. Before entering the tall, impressive archway into the polygon-shaped Universal Plaza, a Mandarin-speaking, red eye Transformer MEGATRON greets guests.
