Lorimar Vineyards & Wine

Our first wine-tasting stop in Temecula was the Lorimar tasting room on Main St. in Old Town Temecula. Owned by Mark Manfield and his brother-in-law Lawrence, hence the name Lorimar.

I sat down with Manfield to learn more about his wines.

Living in Venice, CA near the famous canals, he came down to Temecula four years ago and fell in love with the rolling hills, small town friendliness and beautiful vineyards. He found a 22-acre winery for sale that had a 150 acre orchard next door. After purchasing the property, he had plans drawn up for the Lorimar Vineyards and Winery. It took  four years to get all the approvals and his “dream” is now being built.

Sitting in his tasting room filled with interesting art work, we noticed many of his bottles has musical note labels. “Wine and music have so much in common,” shared Manfield. “Each bottle is unique. Wine makes you feel good, similar to how music makes people feel good. You may have a favorite wine, just like you have a favorite song,” enthused Manfield.

I asked Manfield about his art on the walls and he shared “I bring new artists each month from San Diego to Los Angeles to show their artwork.”  He hosts Meet-and-Greet parties where visitors are introduced to new artists, drink wine, nibble on good food and listen to live entertainment.

The day we visited his tasting room, Papa Soro from Soro’s Restaurant arrived to see if visitors were enjoying his display of delicious Mediterranean specialities. There was a table with stuffed grape leaves with tzatziki (yogurt and cucumber dip), fried pita chips with three different types of hummus: original, cilantro Jalapeno and an orange roasted pepper. The smokey baba ghanoush and tabouli with cracked wheat, garlic, parsley, tomatoes and onions were delectable. The food was fabulous with Lorimar’s wines.

We sipped a pretty pink Grenache sparkling wine with hints of strawberry and watermelon. The second tasting was an award-winning  2010 Muscat Canelli that offers a light citrus aroma and is ideal with Soro’s food. Our last tasting was a 2009 Duetto Chenin Blanc-Viognier that offered ruby grapefruit, pear and lychee touches with white florals.
