Even with reservations, we had to wait about twenty minutes for our table at Catch in the Casa del Mar hotel. Who likes to wait, when they have made a reservation? We didn’t mind at all, because we had the opportunity to sit in cozy seats next to a live four-piece band, Soul Station, featuring Terron Brooks. This group played many of our favorite lounge songs near a crackling fireplace. We later learned that Brooks has sung with Stephanie Mills, Smokey Robinson and Michael Jackson.
While sipping lovely glasses of Presecco Cantine Riondo, we looked towards the colorful lights of the ferris wheel on the Santa Monica pier. The lounge is festive and has a New York City or San Francisco vibe, instead of a casual beach feeling. People are not in flip-flops, but dressed in more formal attire.
The Maitre ‘d, Anthony Alverez, apologized for the wait and whisked us to our table with white basket weave contemporary chairs and adjustable soft back pillows. Warm and soft bread was delivered to our table with a small dish of California Olive Ranch olive oil with a grassy/lemon flavor. A lovely note to begin our dining adventure.
